Felice Arena is Professor of Ocean Engineering and Director of the Natural Ocean Engineering Laboratory NOEL, at the ‘Mediterranea’ University of Reggio Calabria. Chair of the Ph.D. in “Civil and Environmental Engineering and Safety”.

Author of more than 250 papers, published in ISI journals, books and in Proceedings of National and International Conferences.



Advisor of 17 graduated PhD students and of 11 Post-Docs in Ocean Engineering and Marine Energy.Member of the Scientific Committees of both the Structures, Safety and Reliability Symposium at the OOAE Division by the ASME International (USA), and of the International Center of Universities H2CU (Rome, Italy).

In the Editorial Board of journals “Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics”, and “Mathematical Problems in Engineering”.

Best paper Award in OMAE 2011, by ASME.

Invited Editor of Special Issues in “Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics” (2014, vol. 34; 2017 in press) and in the Phil.
Trans. A of the Royal Society of London (2015 vol. 373; issue 2035).

Scientific supervisor of some projects, including Marie Curie PLENOSE (supported by FP7-IRSES); and TEN-T project Study for the development of the green mobility in the port of Civitavecchia through the implementation of the pilot technology REWEC 3 – 2013-IT-92050-S”, supported by the EU’s TEN-T Programme.

Member of the High Counsel of Public Works, in Rome (Italy), at the Department of Public Works, since 2003.

Member of the National Commission for Forecasting and Preventing Major Risks (Rome, Italy), since 2012.
